ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Before the formalities, our Chairman, Brigadier John Holman, introduced the Guest Speaker, the Mayor of Hythe, Cllr. Alan Ewart-James with a reminder that his subject – the new sports pavilion in South Road – was one of the few positive amenity developments that Hythe had succeeded in achieving in the last ten years due to persistent “nimbyism” from minority groups.

The Mayor described in colourful detail how he and his team had battled against all the odds over a long period to raise over £1,000,000 to replace the existing primitive changing rooms with a building and some off-road parking worthy of the 21st century. These efforts were eventually crowned by an award from Football Association development funds amounting to 51% of the cost making the whole project possible. The achievement was greeted with an enthusiastic round of applause.

The meeting then proceeded to deal with the reports for the last year which were characterised by numerous positive achievements which have largely been documented in this and earlier newsletters.

John Keeffe describes his work as the society's archivist.

John used his skill to refurbish and enlarge the Capon Shield awarded annually for outstanding building design. There was no award this year.

They will be recorded in the minutes which will be circulated to members in due course. With no new candidates, the Officers of the Society were re-elected unanimously. After tributes had been paid to Christine Case-Leng, who had to leave her role as planning officer, eleven committee members were similarly re-elected and Mr Michael O’Sullivan was unanimously elected to join the committee.
