June 2006 This is a very busy and exciting time for Saltwood School. Our new build project is well under way with the two classrooms due for completion on July 18th. Daily we are seeing changes on the site and our building now features an attractive clock tower. The Governors and Friends are actively fund raising for our project. We have held a successful Fun Run this term, with children of all ages running with determination and drive raising a terrific £1500. The next item on our calendar is the Summer Fete on Saturday 24th June which is always a delightful community event. We shall be joining with Saltwood Church over the weekend of 15th and 16th July for a Nature Weekend. The children will be displaying some of their art work alongside the other exhibitions.
Apart from our Fund Raising activities we have held an exciting Book Week with a visiting author and a special Dressing Up day where each child came dressed as a book character. The creativity of our parents and children on these days is amazing! All our classes have been on a trip to a variety of locations including Leeds Castle, Dover Castle, Digger Land, Wild Wood, Canterbury Cathedral and Legoland. Our year 6 pupils added an international residential trip to their time in Bowles last autumn. They spent two days in Boulogne visiting Nausicaa, touring the old town, spent a night in a farm house and visited our partner school, Jules Ferry. It was a tremendous experience for everyone. As always the behaviour of our children was highly commended by staff at sites we visited.
The final part of our new build project is due to be completed by the end of September. Do visit us then when we shall be able to show off our new computer suite fully fitted for 33 computers and a splendid new library.

Travel Plan Platinum Award Palmarsh is delighted to have been given a platinum award for it’s travel plan. The school has a unique setting on the outskirts of Hythe and produced a plan aimed at encouraging more of its children to walk to school. The plan has already attracted a grant which is being used to provide better waiting areas for parents who walk to school. French Visit a Great Success 10 Years of Friendship Our school was visited at the end of May by some forty pupils from our our twinned school Ecole Saint Exupery in Frevent Pas de Calais. Our visitors set off at the crack of dawn to be with us by the start of the school day. The children in our top class have already visited their friends in France in the autumn term, and from then on have kept up a correspondence with their chosen pen pals. The day was a great success with a potted sports event, the inevitable England France football match (We won this year!) and after lunch
a trip together to tour Dover Castle. This year was our tenth year of visits and friendship, and we look forward to many more to come. Backing the Community’s Teenagers We have been supporting an initiative resourced by local youth services and Charlton Athletic to offer top quality football coaching. Over twenty five teenagers have been coming along on a regular basis to this excellent opportunity and their response to the project has been nothing but positive. The project will continue way into the future operating for about 40 weeks each year. The school is delighted to be facilitating this superb scheme and in providing a much needed resource for our local youth. School Fete 15 July Our annual school fete takes place this year on Saturday 15 July from midday until 2.00 p.m. It is a very traditional fete and good fun. There will be a number of stalls and raffles and other attractions. Come along and join us I promise you will not be disappointed. |
