Walk 8: Total distance 8½ miles (13¾ km). AWalk to Pedlinge Farm, on to Westenhanger, pass entrance to Folkestone Racecourse and Westenhanger Castle before crossing M20. Continue to Postling, passing beneath Tolsford Hill before joining the Saxon Shore Way to return to Hythe. Moderate gradients with long, gently undulating, cross-country sections and woodland paths.

Details : Leaving Oaklands (left), cross Stade Street and join the footpath that runs alongside the Canal. After crossing the Dymchurch Road after the Duke's Head continue alongside Canal until iron footbridge on right. Cross both the canal and the facing road, turning left along pavement. At traffic lights turn right to join main road, which bears left after junction with Barrack Hill. Continue on pavement up main road until tarmac bridleway on right. This path climbs steeply behind houses for 250 yards until junction left. Take the left turn and continue until reaching a HTC Boundary stone on left. Turn left, and follow path until kissing gate (right) into pasture. Climb, keeping to left side of pasture, shortly reaching Brockhill Stream on left. Cross stream and continue up along right bank until gate into pasture on left. Climb up pasture to gate and steps to field. Route now follows a northwesterly direction for 1.2 mile (1.9 km) until it reaches the Ashford-Folkestone Road (A20). It first crosses to left corner of field to right of small wood. At the gate Pedlinge Chapel and Farm come into view. Follow path to farm where the path crosses the Saxon Shore Way. Engraved footpath stones now mark the route at intervals. Continue through wood, then descend through field to cross private road. Continue ahead and after 300 yards cross stream. Keep to left hand edge of field to gate, entering wood. Path emerges on A20*. Cross facing field to Westenhanger where path emerges on Stone Street. Turn right (north) towards railway station with entrance to racecourse on left. Take road bridge across rail track. Continue on road bearing right to cross M20 on bridleway bridge. Take footpath left to rejoin Stone Street. Turn right to Stanford and after 700 yards turn right to All Saints church (signposted) where footpath left crosses the main Hythe to Canterbury Road (B2068) and continues to Postling. At Postling turn right (southeast) down Cuckoo Lane to T junction. Cross road to continue in southeasterly direction towards BlueHouse where walk joins the Saxon Shore Way. Turn south to return to Hythe following the route of Walk 5. *Walk 8A. (Total distance 6 miles (9.7 km). Walk 8 can be shortened when reaching the A20. It entails a 0.7 mile (1.1 km) trek on pavement along busy A20 to join a footpath at Sandling Park. When emerging on A20, follow pavement right, crossing A20 before roundabout. Cross Channel Tunnel Rail Link by road bridge and turn left towards Folkestone. After 200 metres follow new, rerouted footpath on right up wooden steps over a fence. Path emerges on Sandling Road. Turn right over new road bridge, crossing both CTRL and the regular rail tracks, then left into Sandling Station. Cross car park keeping to the right to reach gate in fence. Follow route of dismantled railway for 300 yards until reach brick tunnel. Climb new steps to left up to the Saxon Shore Way. Return to Hythe, following directions of Walk 7.
